History

The Eastern Goldfields YMCA (EGYMCA) has been providing leisure opportunities and support programs to the Goldfields community for over 100 years and continues to be the leader for community activities in the region.  The EGYMCA conducts a variety of programs that encourage the development of people in the Goldfields with a particular focus on youth services.

The Eastern Goldfields YMCA was first established in 1902. During the outbreak of the First World War, the Association was up and down until, through the efforts of Kalgoorlie and Boulder Rotary and the Perth YMCA, between 1947 and 1949, a local constitution was established.

The Association continued through the support of the Perth YMCA until 4 May 1959, when the Eastern Goldfields YMCA became independent of Perth YMCA, and received its charter deed from the National Council of YMCAs of Australia.

Today, the EGYMCA has four core service areas:

  • Health & Wellbeing

  • Sport & Recreation

  • Youth Services

  • Children & Family Services

The Eastern Goldfields YMCA is celebrating over “100 years of Community Service” and is always working to ensure that it is meeting the needs of the local community.
