Youth and Community Services

The Eastern Goldfields YMCA offers an extensive range of youth programs which have been specifically designed for Goldfields Youth.

Here’s a snapshot:

Brighter Futures:

The youth programs mainly focus on transitioning phases and lifestyle development, while working to assist youth in gaining valuable life skills such as: peer mentoring, reducing isolation, team building, self-confidence, peer relationships; guidance, positive body image, confidence building, employable skills and leadership.

The EGYMCA’s ‘Brighter Futures’ program has been created to assist in the development of these protective factors in youth currently in year 10 who are disengaged from the education system, and often the community, as well as to equip participants with the personal development and employable skills essential to improving one’s health, wellbeing, lifestyle, and ability to access employment options.

Participants also undertake a formal qualification during this program to assist in their tranistion into other activities outside of school (training or employment).

Building HOPE:

The EGYMCA’s Building HOPE (Health, Opportunity, Participation, and Education) program has been run very successfully over the last three years, with strong success rates of participants obtaining employment or undertaking further studies upon completion. This is an intensive training program for individuals needing assistance to reach their goals following personal barriers.

Battle of the Best:

Battle of the best is an ongoing program that is assisting youth in Kalgoorlie to make healthy and active lifestyle choices through activities such as indoor rock climbing, sporting challenges, movie nights, fitness activities and cooking activities.

The program builds leadership and life skills, decreases social isolation and creates community interaction and engagement.

Battle of the best is free to participants aged between 13-18 years old and is run every Thursday evening at the YMCA.
